"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters." Genesis 1: 1,2
There was nothing. Emptiness and disorder reigned absolute over the abyss, and God's word resounded in the universe, bringing the world into existence. Genesis 1 describes the marvelous event of Creation. But it goes beyond that. It also establishes the principle of a victorious and happy life based on placing God "in the beginning" and, only later, "the heavens and the earth.” Human beings run the risk of doing the opposite. They tirelessly go back and forth to reach heaven and earth, and forget to place God in the beginning.
The story of Joey shows the folly of forgetting the Creator. At school he was a brilliant student, and as a reward for his good grades, he had the opportunity to study at one of the best universities in his country on a scholarship. His heart was filled with pride, and he began to put his career and dreams first. He forgot God!
Time passed, the years went by, and he grew old without pain or glory, embittered with life and people. He thought that there was no place in this world for someone as brilliant as him; that people were unfair and did not recognize his worth.
One day, on the verge of madness and suicide, he came back to Jesus. Feeling regret, he wept at the Savior’s feet, and recognized that he had run after his dreams but had forgotten God. The end of his story is inspiring and happy. In five years, God gave him what he had not been able to accomplish in his entire life.
If the land of your life is barren, deserted, and unproductive, know that the Spirit of God is moving upon you, waiting for you to open your heart to Him. If you do, He will bring order to your inner world and enable you to conquer the "heavens and earth" of your dreams.
Take Action
You can look at the list of priorities in your life and ask yourself if God appears "in the beginning" of it. Sing “The Creation” (if possible, with your family).
