"So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” Genesis 1: 27
Rose and Ernest had tearful eyes and broken hearts. They were on the brink of divorce, even though they loved each other.
"I cannot take it anymore," she said. "He is tough, inflexible and he does not own up to his mistakes."
I began my conversation with them by reading today's verse. The text, in the original language, literally reads: "So God created man [hadam] in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male [zakhar] and female [nequebah] He created them."
Biblically, the human being is by origin a unit, which reflects the image of God and is made up of a man and a woman. Separated, they are not complete. They need each other. They are not rivals. They are not competing for a position. They complement each other.
Unfortunately, sin entered the world, and the divine ideal was distorted. The character of both was deformed and, although today they are aware of their sad reality and try by all means to change their way of being, they cannot.
Self-discipline, willpower, and self-control are useless in this regard. Both the creation and restoration of human beings are the exclusive work of God. All you need to do is recognize your limitations and cry out for the divine miracle.
Rose and Ernest gave their lives to the Creator, begged Him to do what they could not, and remain married to this day. They learned that misunderstandings in a couple's life are not reasons to separate, but opportunities to grow.
Take Action
Over the course of the day, do something different to show your partner, if you have one, that you love them and are happy to have met them. If you do not have a partner, you can do something similar for the person you live with or someone you interact with regularly. Sing "Adam and Eve" (if possible, with your family).
