“For Mordecai the Jew was second to King Ahasuerus, and was great among the Jews and well received by the multitude of his brethren, seeking the good of his people and speaking peace to all his countrymen.” Esther 10:3
Pursued closely, tormented by his enemies who plotted to destroy him, however, Mordecai never surrendered. He took refuge in the arms of one who knows no defeat. Finally, as today's text says, Mordecai enjoyed prestige among his people at the end of the story.
It was not only the king’s recognition which placed him in a strategic position in the kingdom, but he also had the love of his brothers. Surely there were some among his own people who disagreed with him and even criticized him. But that is the price of being a leader. Do not dare desire leadership if you do not want to be criticized and condemned by a more or less large minority. Forget what they say about you, raise your head, and move on.
You have too important a mission to waste your time arguing with people who only hinder, willingly or not, the fulfillment of God's purposes.
What was the secret to Mordecai's fortitude and the prosperity of his path in the midst of difficulties? His submission to God, and as a result from it, he sought the good of the people and peace with whom he associated. Leadership experts would say today that he had emotional intelligence. The Bible defines this ability to love and understand others as part of God's character reflected in those who seek Him and remain with Him.
