“But who can discern their own errors? Forgive my hidden faults. Keep your servant also from willful sins; may they not rule over me. Then I will be blameless, innocent of great transgression. May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.” Psalm 19:12-14, NIV
She was playing the free love game. "While I wait for the right man, I have fun with the wrong ones," she said. And her laughter was lost among the stones of endless mountains, like a cascade of wild waters.
Dazzled by life, she played her own game as if there were no moral rules. She ran like a gazelle through the attractive meadows of a liberal society. She swam in the turbulent postmodern waters, descended into the depths of that treacherous sea, drawn by philosophies akin to corals and colorful fish. One day, she felt that she was short on oxygen and wanted to get out. She tried to return to the surface and realized she had gone too far. She died from AIDS at the age of twenty-eight.
Gabriela, Gabriela! Your brown skin was too white on the day of your funeral. Your bright eyes had no light. What did you do with your life? Why did you not respect the time? Why did you play with your life and leave early? You were not able to discern your own mistakes. You let pride and arrogance take hold of your crazy young heart.
David knew the danger of setting up his own path of destruction and death. So he begged God to help him be whole. "My Rock," he said, "and my Redeemer." That Rock is permanent even though centuries have passed, and it was ages go. But the Rock remains in the same place. Its values do not change. By addressing God as the Rock, the psalmist placed his trust solely in God and His Word. Only in Him is there security. The human heart is a liar. That is why, in his psalm, David asks God to deliver him from errors and pride.

Today's text is the wise prayer of someone who suffered for his own mistakes. Do you want to make David's cry your own? Join God, and He will serve as a mirror to uncover your hidden mistakes. Then, He Himself will deliver you from them so that they will stop embittering your life. Sing "My Rock and My Redeemer" (if possible, with your family).
