«The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?» Psalm 27: 1
The coronavirus, the mortal enemy of modern human beings, spread pain, sadness, and despair through-out all regions of the planet, riding like a runaway colt and sowing tragedy, without giving many people time to even say goodbye.
In the midst of the pain, many staged unusual acts. In Palestine, for example, Jihad Al-Suwaiti decided to climb several floors to reach the window of the hospital where his mother was staying. The woman was living the last moments of her life, but thanks to this extreme attitude of the son they were able to say goodbye. The images that went around the world on social media show the heartbreaking situation experienced by the families of those who died due to the pandemic. The solitude of the hospital became, for the victims, the last notion they had of the world before they closed their eyes.
Centuries ago, not because of the pandemic, but because of his enemies, David also experienced moments of darkness and death. From a human point of view, it seemed that there was no way out of the difficult circumstances he faced; however, he praised God in his heart and expressed the beautiful convictions we read in today’s text.
David’s trust was in the Lord of his salvation. The psalmist mentions light. Light chases away darkness, allows your eyes to observe the path and avoid dangers. God delivers you from the darkest adversity, opening your eyes to the light of His Word, and teaching you to avoid the dangers you encounter in your path.
“Every step in life may bring us closer to Jesus, may give us a deeper experience of His love […]. Then let us not cast away our confidence, but have firm assurance, firmer than ever before” (Ellen G. White, Steps to Christ, p. 125).
Take Action
Do not fear nor dismay no matter how many enemies of any kind surround you and threaten you. Make the Lord your light and your salvation and move boldly toward victory. Sing “The Lord Is My Light” (if possible, with your family).
