“Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit.” Psalm 32: 1,2
Karin Cheshire could not bear the death of her son, who, overwhelmed by despair, took his own life. This fifty-five-year-old English woman said she could not imagine the future without her son, so she also committed suicide by hanging herself. The son did it after being falsely accused of rape. She took her life because she could not get over the pain.
Guilt can kill. The shame and pain of injustice can too. King David felt the weight of guilt as he confronted his sins—adultery, murder, abuse of power, political intrigue, and lying. A cocktail of undesirable actions that oppose God's perfect character. That night when Nathan told him that he was a poor sinner, David wanted to die. But the Spirit of the Lord showed him that, although humanly the sinner's situation seems to have no way out, God's grace is far more all-encompassing and powerful than the power of guilt.
David believed in forgiveness and, as a result, one day wrote today's text.
Happy is the human being who one day discovers the wonderful grace of Jesus and accepts it. We are saved by grace alone. There is no sin that Jesus cannot forgive. For on the cross of Calvary, He died for all the sins of all human beings throughout all of human history. That is why eternity will be insufficient to thank Him.
