GOD IS OUR REFUGE

«God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, even though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; though its waters roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with its swelling.» Psalm 46:1-3

You do not see Him. I know you do not see Him. There are times when, no matter how much you need and want Him, you do not see Him. The clouds of pain and sadness are so thick that they prevent you from seeing Him. In those moments, only faith remains.

How can we understand, for example, that the person who once swore eternal love to you suddenly looks you in the eye and almost nonchalantly tells you: “It is over”, or “I need some time to think”?

Think what? That love was not love? That they did not know what they were doing? That they made a mistake?

Today’s biblical promise is that the Lord is with you even if you do not see Him. Even if your wounded heart cries out to you, saying that God has also abandoned you. Even if you want to sleep and never wake up again, God is with you, powerful, and will save you. Therefore, do not be afraid, though the earth shakes under your feet, though the mountains of your hopes be turned up and cast into the sea, though the threats roar around you like the roars of fearful storms.

The Lord never promised that you would not have problems in this life. What He promised you is that in the midst of them you would never be alone. That He would accompany you even in the darkest adversity, that in which you think is the most opposite of his divine presence.

The word “refuge” expresses the idea of the place where the mouse hides from the cat. From the outside, the disturbing feline may growl, threaten, make an ugly face, but as long as the little animal is in its refuge, its enemy will never be able to reach it.

Take Action

Do you feel threatened by something? God is your refuge, hide in His protective arms and wait patiently for the dark storm clouds to give way to the blue of a new dawn. Sing “God Is Our Refuge” (if possible, with your family).
