«Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You. My flesh and my heart fail; but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.» Psalm 73: 25, 26
In this world there are millionaires who literally do not know what to do with their money. They waste it. They squander it. They do not know what else to invent to please their senses. In Manhattan, for example, on E 60th Street, we find the restaurant Serendipity 3. The exclusive “Frrrozen Haute Chocolate” ice cream is sold there. The three Rs are to highlight the hype and sophistication of the coveted dessert.
To try this delicacy, you have to pay $25,000. It is made with a blend of twenty-eight types of chocolate, including the fourteen most expensive in the world. It comes covered with a five-gram leaf of edible gold and served in an eighteen-karat crystal and gold goblet, adorned with a gold and diamond bracelet at its base.
People who indulge in this luxury wear a gold spoon decorated with chocolate-colored diamonds. To complete the experience, dessert includes a truffle, “La Madeleine”, by the famous master chocolatier Fritz Knipschildt.
Maybe in this life you do not even dare to dream of trying one of these ice creams; yet God has for you things that “eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man” (1 Corinthians 2:9). Aware that God alone satisfies, the psalmist said that the Lord was sufficient for him, as we read what he wrote beautifully in today’s text.
While you live in this world, your flesh and heart can often become faint, discouraged by the injustices around you. Yet, nothing that happens to you is ignored by God.
He is your portion, your inheritance! With him you will walk in eternity!
Take Action
Maybe you are one of those who think you need this or that blessing from God. Only when you understand that the blessing is God Himself will you begin to enjoy true inner peace. Sing “The Strength of My Heart” (if possible, with your family).
