“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." Psalm 119: 105
He was struggling in a bed because of the accident caused by driving his vehicle while intoxicated. Although his physical condition was pitiful, he managed to think clearly, and the first thing that came to his mind was today's verse, which was memorized by him when he was a child. Obviously, the Bible's counsel had not shaped his life. His decisions had been made according to his instincts and not on the advice of his parents when he was a child.
Lying now on the bed of pain, the instructions he had despised flashed through his mind. He had walked blindly, was shrouded in darkness, and touched the walls of his existence in search of a way out until, one day, he found refuge in alcohol. At first, he claimed to be a "social drinker"; but, over time, the first and last thing in his daily routine was drinking.
This life is a long, perilous, and dark path in the midst of which, David affirms, the Word of God enlightens and guides us. A life of darkness is an existence of pain and suffering. In the dark you not only hurt yourself, but you also hurt the one you love.
Studying the Bible is not an "obligation" of the Christian, but the privilege of entering into communion with Christ to receive His counsel and face the turbulence of the road. No matter how stormy and dark the night is, you are not afraid if you have light, because you can find the way out.
