A SEAL ON YOUR HEART

«Many waters cannot quench love, nor can the floods drown it. If a man would give for love all the wealth of his house, it would be utterly despised.» Song of Solomon 8: 7

Dariel and Jenny came to the altar to unite their lives forever. As usual, the pastor wished them to be blessed “until death do you part.” Six years later, they concluded that they no longer loved each other. At what point did they stop loving each other? According to them, they had had many and varied problems, and although they tried hard to solve them, they could not, and they concluded that the most sensible thing to do was for each to go their own way.

However, in today’s text Solomon states that “many waters cannot quench love, nor can the floods drown it.” The force of the “many waters” is a symbol of the problems and difficulties that arise in life. They are, sometimes, avalanches of adversities that attack the ship of love; but if this love is true, if it is more than a feeling; it is a principle that, like the rock, remains firm despite the circumstances.

True love cannot be bought with anything: “If a man would give for love all the wealth of his house, it would be utterly despised.” The love that lasts forever is born in God and only remains alive in the heart if the man or woman lives a daily experience of love with Christ.

For a home to remain united, it needs to be united by the divine love that infects and sets hearts on fire. The love of one of the spouses is not enough. Love in a couple is lived by two. Both need to believe in the divine source of love, and both must try to drink daily from the fountain of love. For this reason, the prophet asks: “Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?” (Amos 3:3).

Take Action

When you love, do it with a love like God’s love, who seeks nothing in return. Sing “A Seal upon Your Heart” (if possible, with your family).
