“‘Come now, and let us reason together,’ says the Lord, ‘Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool.’” Isaiah 1:18
The news caused an impact in the neighborhood. The family did not understand how an exemplary father—that honest, calm, and hard-working man—had decided to take his own life. Or rather, almost all his family members except his thirteen-year-old daughter who had been a victim of her father's abuse since she turned ten. On the day of his funeral, she was the only one who did not cry. Looking at his coffin, she murmured to a friend of hers, "Guilt killed him."
There are hidden psychological aspects behind any suicide. It is not easy to understand the reasons that lead a person to such an extreme decision. What level of desperation does someone reach to end their existence? What is going on inside their mind? Many suicides are the result of unresolved guilt and the feeling of anguish and pain that takes over the soul due to an offense against one's neighbor, against God, or against oneself.
In today's text, God invites the human being, a sinner, to clarify things. He is willing to make His forgiveness yours. To do this, it is necessary to fix the situation of sin. Repentance involves changing your point of view and admitting that things cannot continue as they are. A change of course, a new birth, is necessary. When the person recognizes their need to start over, they begin to see the promise of justification fulfilled.
There is no sin that God cannot forgive. There is no place that is so far that He cannot bring back the lost son; there is no pit so deep into which you have fallen that He cannot pull you out.
Take Action
Today can be that day in your existence. Recognize that you have separated yourself from the Lord and cry out for the mercy that He longs to give you. Sing “White as Snow” (if possible, with your family).
