GLORY IN THE LORD

“Thus says the Lord: ‘Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, let not the mighty man glory in his might, nor let the rich man glory in his riches; but let him who glories glory in this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight,’ says the Lord.” Jeremiah 9:23-24

Everyday life dawns loaded with dreams. Every human being sets out in the morning towards what they consider important. The classrooms filled with young people in search of knowledge and pulse in excitement. In the streets, men and women run from one place to another to ensure their subsistence. In factories, people sweat hoping to receive, at the end of the month, a salary that compensates their effort. Every day's routine consists of the frantic search for money because in the world we live in "if you do not have money, you are worthless."

Some brag about their achievements. They display diplomas, accumulate fortunes, boast about fame, and cling to their successes as their reason for living. But when night comes, those same people silently cry out their frustration of being without, although they have never been without material goods. Neither the applause, nor the robust bank accounts, nor the titles achieved fill the void in their hearts.

In this framework, Jeremiah's message emerges and is addressed to human beings of all times: As today's text expresses, only those who enjoy knowing God deserve to "boast." There is a contrast between the three things that fade away: human wisdom, courage, and riches (Jeremiah 9:23), and the three things that remain forever: mercy, judgment, and justice (verse 24).

The secret to achieving the last three? Know God through a genuine experience of daily connection with Him.
