"The cry of the children of Israel has come to Me, and I have also seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them. Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt." Exodus 3: 9,10
The walnut trees gave off their aroma of green nuts, which was combined with the smell of cattle and fresh mud used in the manufacture of bricks. It was almost all these hopeless slaves had. They were a people condemned to a life without many prospects.
Years ago, their ancestors had come to Egypt looking for some wheat to survive. They were treated well at first because Joseph was the prime minister. But times changed, because everything changes in life, and Pharaoh was already someone else who did not even remember Joseph. The Israelites were now seen as a bunch of rapidly multiplying slaves who threatened the sovereignty of the country.
The people suffered. No one is happy when they are deprived of the oxygen of freedom. Men, women, and children cried out incessantly, and God heard their cry and raised up a deliverer. As we read in today's verse, He called Moses to confront Pharaoh on His behalf.
God's call to Moses involved two commands: "Come" and "I will send you." Don't you dare go without first coming to Me. "Moses, you are nothing. The first time you tried to go without coming to Me forty years ago, you failed. Therefore, come to Me, receive My power, and My authority to face the mountain of difficulties that you will encounter along the way."
God has a mission for you today: to help people be free from the bondage of sin. Don't you dare go to them without first coming to the source of all power and inspiration: Jesus. In Him and through Him, you will be able to face any challenge.
Take Action
Think of specific people who will be happier knowing the gospel of Jesus Christ. Pray for them. Introduce them to Jesus, especially in your deeds and attitudes. Ask God for wisdom and opportunities to bring them to His feet.
