“Thus says the Lord who made it, the Lord who formed it to establish it (the Lord is His name): ‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’” Jeremiah 33:2-3
The other day, I turned my eyes to the wheat fields of my land; I contemplated in my imagination the green fields surrounded by bushes. I remembered, in the twilight of my existence, my people so clearly, so old and so tired. Its peasants, lumberjacks, young people and old people paraded through my mind looking for a reason to live; and I thanked God because one day He found me on the path of life and called me with His meek and tender voice.
Today, mine is a path carpeted with hope. I would like to understand the mysteries of the world, the reason for suffering, and the apparent injustices of this life. But I have learned to trust in God and the promise He made through Jeremiah in today's text.
Knowing the “great and mighty things” of God does not mean completely deciphering the divine mysteries. The finite human mind is too small to understand the unknowns of life. Knowing the “great and mighty things” of God means, rather, knowing Him and learning to trust that what happens to us in this life will ultimately be for our best.
He is the Lord, the self-existent. The One who is because He is. He has no beginning or end. The years go by, the ages pass, and the leaves of the trees wither and are carried away by the wind, but God is eternal. It is the Lord, who one day created the heavens and the earth. You are in the palms of His hands. Do not worry. Even if your instinct tells you that you are lost, you are not.
Take Action
In the face of the adverse circumstances that may arise today, do not hesitate or despair. Cry out to the Lord and He will answer you. Sing “Call to Me” (if possible, with your family).
