WHAT IS THE MISSION OF A WATCHMAN?

«Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; therefore hear a word from My mouth, and give them warning from Me: When I say to the wicked, ‘You shall surely die,’ and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life, that same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at your hand.» Ezekiel 3: 17,18

From the tower built at the highest part of the city, the watchman looked towards the horizon to see if the enemy was approaching. If he saw any abnormality, he would blow the trumpet so that the people would prepare for battle. If he failed in his mission, the city risked being destroyed.

Today we are the watchmen of the world. The signs of the time of the end, which we can see fulfilled in our days, warn us of the urgency of our mission. We cannot remain simple spectators. We need to carefully study what the Bible says about the current situation and make it known to the rest of the world; yes, always with emphasis on Jesus, imbued with His love in our words and actions.

“Those who accept the present truth and are sanctified through it, have an intense desire to represent the truth in their life and character. They have a deep yearning of soul that others may see the light and rejoice in it” (Ellen G. White, Evangelical Workers, p. 239).

Given the current situation, this desire becomes even more pressing. Climate change, the result of global warming, and the disasters that are the effect of human mistreatment of natural resources, the pandemics that devastate cities and turn homes into house prisons, all this is evidence that our planet is approaching the end of its history.

Today’s Bible verse reminds us that the Lord long ago assigned His servants the responsibility of helping others to know God.

Take Action

Be careful, God does not want to punish you! That responsibility has to do with the regret you would experience if you had not warned others in time of the danger that threatened them. Often the human language of the prophets implies that God does things that He only allows. Be that as it may, He acts for the benefit of your fellow men!
