“Daniel answered and said: ‘Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, for wisdom and might are His. And He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding.’” (Daniel 2:20-21)
What divine light emanates from heaven when Daniel kneels and pours out his soul before the Most High. The prophet is a mere mortal and is aware of his humanity. He is no better than his brethren, he does not consider himself superior, nor more just, nor more holy. He needs wisdom to reveal the king's dream and kneels before the all-knowing God. Only the Lord is able to hear their cry because, as we have just read, "for wisdom and might are His."
Daniel's prayer is more relevant today than ever. Leaders and those who are led need to understand that no one comes to power because they run a brilliant electoral campaign. But because God is the one who removes kings and sets up kings; and in His infinite wisdom, allows human beings to temporarily manage the destinies of the people.
But the Lord never loses control. He is sovereign and eternal. No one comes to power against their will. God allows, or endures, the decision of human beings. Let not the poor creature be deceived into believing that the power belongs to them. Universal history is only the unfolding and fulfillment of the divine plans revealed in the prophetic word.
King Nebuchadnezzar did not yet know Daniel, nor did he imagine who this young Hebrew would be, and yet the Lord had already revealed the dream to his servant. Throughout history, there has always been a small remnant who are aware of what lies behind social and political conflicts. The prophetic revelation is clear. The history of the world has been revealed in the Holy Scriptures, and it is the duty of man to know it.
Take Action
Today you can take some time to study the prophecies that foretell the end of this world. When you do, do not forget to look for Christ in them. All Scripture points to Him. Sing "Blessed Be the Name” (if possible, with your family).
