“Therefore thus will I do to you, O Israel; because I will do this to you, prepare to meet your God, O Israel! For behold, he who forms mountains, and creates the wind, who declares to man what his thought is, and makes the morning darkness, who treads the high places of the earth—the Lord God of hosts is His name." Amos 4: 12,13
God speaks to His people. He never stops communicating with His children. He loves them and desires to see them saved, living eternally with Him . That is why He challenges, invites, and calls. Not only in the book of Amos but throughout the Bible.
In the words of this verse, He addresses His beloved children of all times. He speaks to you and me. He says, "prepare to meet your God." First of all, these words are a challenge to the enemies of God. If you do not accept divine grace and think you can play with God because, in your opinion, He is nothing more than a well-crafted concept, think again. Why? For it would be foolish to dare to wrestle with the Lord without proper preparation. Jacob dared to do so and limped off to the banks of the Jabbok River. Others were struck down by the mere glare of His presence. So accept redemptive grace today and prepare to come meet Him.
However, these words also register the most tender and sweet invitation. God longs for an experience of love and daily connection with His children; but since sin entered this world, human beings have preferred to hide among the trees of their concepts and preconceptions, of their traumas and complexes. They preferred to sew fragile and ridiculous garments with fig leaves, rather than run into the arms of the beloved Father.
Finally, these words contain a call. The Bible is categorical in stating that one day we will all have to settle accounts with the Lord. This is not the time to play with divine grace.
