“Though the fig tree may not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines; though the labor of the olive may fail, and the fields yield no food; though the flock may be cut off from the fold, and there be no herd in the stalls—Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation." Habakkuk 3: 17,18
Gray smoke rose indolently from the roofs of the buildings. The ashes darkened and littered the air. Lisandra stared at the orange flames that devoured her apartment; and as neighbors ran back and forth in desperation, she looked dumbfounded, in shock, anesthetized by the tragedy of losing what she owned.
However, the reality was different. She was in full use of her reason and was aware of her tragedy, but her trust in God was far greater than the devouring fire. When asked about her strange attitude, she replied that, in spite of everything, she trusted in God's love.
Centuries ago, Habakkuk also saw his country desolate because of the invading army and natural calamities. In the midst of that loss, he looked to the future with hope. He knew that, despite difficult circumstances, his God had not forsaken him.
Have you ever wondered why, if God is so great and powerful, things are going wrong for you? Habakkuk looked at the dry fig trees, there were no fruits on the vines, the olive trees were empty, the fields were unproductive, and the cattle was dead. However, he was not discouraged. He remembered that God is far greater than all adversity put together.
Take Action
Know God! When you really get acquainted with Him, any circumstance will seem relative to the happiness of having Him by your side. If you are going through a tough time, do not despair. If you need to cry, cry, but remember that you are not alone. And that after the night, morning will come. Sing "Even So!" (if possible, with your family).
