THE KING RIDING ON A DONKEY

“Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your King is coming to you; He is just and having salvation, lowly and riding on a donkey, a colt, the foal of a donkey." Zecharia 9:9

Almost six centuries before Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem on a donkey, the prophet Zechariah, by divine inspiration, had prophesied that the Savior of the world would come in this way. He would not arrive riding on a spirited white steed, victorious, and dazzling. He would come humble, bringing righteousness, and salvation to human beings.

Jesus' humility is one of the characteristics that stand out in His character. He was one with His Father and with the Spirit. God who is sovereign and eternal. God Almighty who dwells in the infinite, and yet became a servant and died on the cross, a punishment destined for the worst offenders.

While ministering on Earth, He gathered His disciples together one day and told them to learn from their Master—to be humble and meek in heart. If they did not, they would always live tired and burdened because most of the problems that human beings face are the result of their deformed character.

We are no longer the perfect work that one day came out of the hands of the Creator. We are arrogant, proud, rebellious, disobedient, and conceited. We choose our own paths of destruction and death and suffer the consequences.

It is time to go back to Jesus. Let us abandon the flamboyant horses of our human achievements, ride on the humble donkeys of this earth, and let the Master sculpt our being to make us again in His image and likeness.
