"And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” Matthew 1: 21
The human being sinks into the quicksand of sin. They groan the rattles of death, suffocating in the filthy pit of their passions. Sadly, it is our reality, despite humanism proclaiming that humanity evolves morally. Everyday life shows otherwise. Selfishness drags people into violence and injustice. Burning flames consume their disturbed conscience. It has always been this way since the entrance of sin into the world. Apparently, there is no way out. Condemnation hovers like a bird of prey over the bleeding victim.
Many ignore this reality, unfortunately, or prefer to hide their inner pain. Recently, on a plane trip, an agnostic asked me, "What can Jesus save me from if I have a good job, I can buy whatever I want, and travel wherever I want?" A while later, while we were talking about other matters, he told me that he was getting divorced and that his unmarried daughter, aged sixteen, had just had a child; and because of that; he had been on the verge of taking his own life. The man became sad, no longer remembering that an hour earlier he had wondered what God could save him fRomans
The Lord loves His children in spite of their rebelliousness and hardness of heart, and that is why since eternity there was already a plan of salvation, which we see announced in the book of Genesis and prophesied in one way or another by the OT writers. Isaiah is one of them. Seven hundred years before Jesus was born, he wrote, "Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel" (Isaiah 7:14).
This promise was fulfilled in Jesus Christ. He is the Savior of the world. When all is lost, Jesus Christ is the way out, He is the door, the Good Shepherd, and He is the Rock of the ages.
