JESUS WAS RESURRECTED TO GUARANTEE FUTURE RESURRECTIONS

“But he said to them, ‘Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid Him.’" Mark 16: 6

Whether we like it or not, from a biological point of view we have an expiration date. If there is a confirmed statistic, it is that out of every hundred people, one hundred die sooner or later. From the moment we arrive in the world, an invisible and unalterable clock consumes second by second our pilgrimage through this world. As cruel as it may seem, this is our dramatic reality after the entrance of sin. We cannot deny it. It is a painful and lacerating reality because, unlike animals that lack the ability to reason, we are aware that life is slipping away from us, like the waters of the river to the depths of the sea.

It is precisely being aware of our fleeting existence that has stimulated the human imagination to create myths and legends that glimpse the discovery of the fountain of eternal youth. On the other hand, science today struggles desperately to extend the years of life with partial success but is more limited in less developed countries.

The Bible, however, does not speak of a rejuvenating fountain but of the eternal life we will receive at the Second Coming. On that day, the dead in Christ will rise first. It will be a day of joy and jubilation. In which we will be able to reunite and embrace the loved ones that death took from us.

Jesus' resurrection proved that resurrection is not a simple promise but a reality. On the Sunday when Jesus rose from the dead, the disciples were sorrowful, believing that, after the Master's death, their hopes had ended. But the tomb opened, and death gave way to life. Now, the resurrection is a reality for all who look forward to the Second Coming.

Is that also your great hope?
