"Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’" John 14: 6
In the midst of the difficulties of this life, dreams come like sparks that light the way. Dreams are those enchanting moments in which we leave reality to fly into an ideal, imaginary world. But Jesus' promises are not simply hope-generating dreams. They are future and concrete realities.
In the 14th chapter of John, we find one of those promises. The Lord promised His followers that He was going to heaven to prepare a house for them where they would live forever by the Father's side. This promise was so beautiful and extraordinary that some disciples could not believe it. Thomas, the disciple who doubted everything, asked what was the way to make that dream come true, and Jesus answered him with that revealing phrase from today's verse.
A path serves to reach the proposed destination. If you take the wrong path, you can end up frustrated and disenchanted. The end of a wrong path can be suffering, anguish, and death. There is no other way to the Father apart from Jesus. There are many voices and varied paths today. They are illusory and seductive paths that call to you under different forms, names, and philosophies.
On 19 April, 1993, for example, the world was shocked by the news of the fire at a ranch located in the town of Waco, Texas, after many weeks of police siege. The flames devoured the lives of seventy-five people who sincerely believed that David Koresh was the way to the Father's house.
Amid so many voices, Jesus knocks on the door of your heart and calls you. He is the only way.
Take Action
There are many deceptive paths that lead neither to Truth nor to Life. Remember that only Jesus is a reliable path. Sing "The Way to the Father's House" (if possible, with your family).
