"Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” Acts 4: 12
Early in the morning, the religious leaders went to the prison where Peter and John had spent the night, and asked them by what authority and in whose name they acted in the way they did (see Acts 4:7). Peter's response, which we have just read in today's verse, is the most extraordinary statement of faith.
There is salvation only in Christ. You can, if you wish, travel the entire world and fill your mind with the most varied religious theories, philosophies, and concepts. You can exercise self-control, self-discipline, and willpower. You can even flagellate your body in penance for your mistakes. But once you have traveled all the roads with an empty and desperate heart, you will fall at the feet of Jesus, admitting that "salvation is found in no one else."
Life is hard and full of pitfalls. It binds you with the ropes of slavery, subjects you to the vices of body and soul, cages you in the prison of your own passions, carries you to the limits of madness. And when you see yourself subjugated, you can look for the solution in human resources, in science or in technology; you can cry out for freedom, resorting to the false promises of humanism. But when you are tired of searching and seeking, of running from one place to another without finding what you long for, you will surrender exhausted, frustrated, and disenchanted at the feet of Jesus to recognize that there is salvation in no one else.
There is no other name in whom you can find the dawn of a new day for the dark night you are going through. His name is Emmanuel, that is, "God with us." He is a God who is always present, who does not abandon you, who seeks you with open arms, and accepts you when you admit your inability and recognize His power.
In spite of the walls that stand as insurmountable obstacles in your way, you can be victorious because there is salvation in Christ Jesus.
