GOD ASKS YOU TO KEEP THE SABBATH

“Therefore the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations as a perpetual covenant. It is a sign between Me and the children of Israel forever; for in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed.” Exodus 31: 16,17

The expressions "perpetual covenant" and "forever" express the sense of permanence, durability, and endurance. Both expressions have to do with the observance of the Sabbath by the children of God. The instruction to keep it is for those who wish to be part of the "people of God.” Israel was God’s chosen people in the Old Testament. God often calls them "My people", "My children", and "My special treasure.”

The idea is simple. God's people on this Earth accept the sign of identification that He established. It is easy to understand. It is not a temporary sign given to a certain generation or because of a specific situation. It is a permanent, perpetual, and eternal identification.

The Sabbath is a sign between God and His children since the Creation: “For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day” (Ex. 20:11). Centuries later, Jesus came into the world to restore the work of the

Creator that had been disfigured by God's enemy. He worked for the salvation of humanity, and on a Friday afternoon, while hanging on the cross of Calvary, He exclaimed, "It is finished." And on the Sabbath, He rested in the grave according to the commandment.

Are there not enough indications that the Sabbath is the day of rest given to human beings?

Take Action

Do not miss the opportunity to enjoy the gift of weekly rest that God gave us! God's people rest in Jesus, which the seventh day symbolizes. Sing "You Shall Keep My Sabbaths" (if possible, with your family).
