YOU ARE THE TEMPLE OF GOD

"Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body [a]and in your spirit, which are God’s." (1 Corinthians 6: 19.20

Peter built a small wooden boat with his own hands, but one day the boat got lost. Although he looked for it everywhere, he did not find it. One Sunday morning, however, at the fair, he saw a tall, burly man selling used toys, and among them was his beloved little boat. He wanted to take it back, but the man told him that if he wanted it back, he had to pay the price.

It was a lot of money for that poor boy, so he went to work. He got blisters on his hands that burst and bled, but he wanted his toy back and did not rest until he had the money. At last he bought it. Back home with it, he held the little boat close to his heart and said, "Little boat, little boat, you are twice mine. Mine because I made you, and mine because I bought you."

We too belong to God because He created us; and when we were lost by our own will, He did not hesitate to send His Son to die on the cross to redeem us. That is Paul's message in this text. We are not ours. Although today's humanism shouts in your ear that you are free to do and live as you wish, you do not belong to yourself. The apostle, in today's text, reminds us that our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. It is our responsibility to keep it pure, especially sheltering such an illustrious Inhabitant inside.

Take Action

Let the Spirit dwell in the temple of your body, let it purify and sanctify it so that its fruit in you may announce to your surroundings the glory of God. May your light reflect the Light that changes hearts! Sing "The Temple of the Holy Spirit" (if possible, with your family).
