DO NOT GROW WEARY IN DOING GOOD

"But as for you, brethren, do not grow weary in doing good." 2 Thessalonians 3: 13

The wind was blowing, cooling the hot beginning of summer. Lying in a hammock, Pablo watched life go by. And while he liked the comfort, he felt like "garbage." It was he who used the expression when describing to me his life before he met Jesus. Nothing is worse than unproductiveness. It annihilates you. It makes you feel like nothing, like a dry leaf carried by the wind or lifeless sand in the desert of an empty existence.

The gospel came into his life when he thought all was lost and there were no more horizons for him. It came unexpectedly, without wanting or searching for it. He did not know that Jesus had been looking for him for a long time. As he came to know Jesus and accept Him as his Savior, he began to feel an unknown inner strength. It did not come from him; it came from above. It was divine. And the tired man, who was a failure, was transformed into a giant with the will to win.

Salvation has nothing to do with idleness. The gospel motivates you. It is a propelling force that inspires you to serve. When Christ comes into your life, you do not grow weary of doing good even if people do not understand you. You do not help others expecting some reward. You simply help because the meaning of your life is to serve.

Jesus was our example of service. He came to serve and to die. He burned like a candle lighting up the world. He became wheat and disappeared into the earth to offer His own bread and satisfy the hunger of humanity. That is why Paul, after presenting Jesus in the fullness of His love and saving grace, exhorts the Thessalonians not to grow weary in doing good.

Take Action

In your walk with Jesus, you will see brothers and sisters in the faith who are not exemplary. Life's difficulties will dent your spirits. Still, the purpose of your walk with Jesus remains the same: Never grow weary of doing good through His Spirit. Nothing is, in the end, more satisfying.
