“Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments.” Deuteronomy 7: 9
The door slammed shut behind him. It was a dry noise, like his arid heart. Another missed opportunity. One more job that was not "up to his standards." At thirty-two years old, he was still looking for the job that would match his "ability and qualification."
He had ambitions and degrees from the best universities. Sometimes he believed himself to be a demigod, above mere mortals. That is why he suffered. Others did not see him in the same way. His name was Peter Paul, two biblical names. Perhaps it was chosen because his parents wanted him to follow the example of the heroes of Christianity. But when he went off to college, he thought that he did not need God anymore, and he completely forgot what he had learned in his childhood. Once, tired of living, he wondered why God did not keep His promises to him.
On his thirty-fifth birthday, Peter Paul attempted suicide but failed. As a result, he was left in a wheelchair. Those were long months of reflection. One day he looked in the mirror and realized that his life was slipping away without pain or glory. Then, remembering the teachings he had received in childhood, he went to God, humbled himself, begged for forgiveness, and sought Him with his heart. And everything began to change in his life. He developed a positive mental attitude. With great effort and a lot of physiotherapy, he managed to get rid of the wheelchair, got a respectable job, and the other divine promises came true in his life.
Centuries ago, Moses affirmed that faithful God who "keeps covenant and mercy." Why was this mercy able to become a reality in Peter Paul's experience? The reason is simple. God's promise is enjoyed by those who listen to God, as today's text implies.
Knowing God demands daily communion with the Creator. If you seek Him every day in prayer and meditating on His Word, the natural result will be to love Him and consequently walk in His ways. Then, and only then, will God's faithfulness and infinite mercy be manifested in your life. God is always faithful to those who love Him.
Take Action
By knowing the Lord, you will see His faithfulness and His love. The result can only be the desire to be faithful to Him as He is to you. Sing "The Faithful God" (if possible, with your family).
