GOD ESTABLISHES LAWS ABOUT SEXUAL CONDUCT

«If a man is found lying with a woman married to a husband, then both of them shall die—the man that lay with the woman, and the woman; so you shall put away the evil from Israel.» Deuteronomy 22:22

God created sex to be practiced in the boundaries of marriage as an expression of love, as a means of procreation, and also as a source of pleasure. Unfortunately, with the advent of sin, sex was distorted, and infidelity became part of human history, with dire results.

The saddest thing about infidelity is not the terrible social and personal consequences, but the inability it generates to believe in God’s promises. The unfaithful believes that God is also unfaithful. Whenever they think of God’s love, they do so from their human perspective of love. And human love, as sincere and beautiful as it may seem, is tainted with selfishness. It looks for what suits each one, hoping for some benefit in return.

In Israel’s time, God exhorted His people to be faithful. Faithful homes, faithful spouses, without lies or deception. The consequence of infidelity would be death. Today, it still is, just not instant death, but a slow agony that consumes us daily, the conscience’s desperate cry.

God created man and woman with a vocation for faithfulness and gave them an undivided personality. For this reason, everything that human beings do, they do it as a complete unity. During lunchtime, for example, your emotions, body, and mind should participate together in a healthy way. Otherwise, you run the risk of developing ulcers. It is the same with sex. But in infidelity, there is a breakdown of human unity. The body desires, but the heart resists, and, if the person insists, terrible ulcers open in the mind, which render them incapable of being happy in marriage. Being unfaithful is not worth it!

Take Action

God does not invite you to be pure to feel superior to those who are not. He wants you to be pure so that things go better in your relationships and risks are minimized. Meditate on it. You will see that it is not a capricious demand but the wise counsel of a God full of love.
