SPEAK, FOR YOUR SERVANT HEARS

"Now the Lord came and stood and called as at other times, ‘Samuel! Samuel!’ And Samuel answered, ‘Speak, for Your servant hears.’” 1 Samuel 3:10

The silence and darkness gave the night an air of solemnity. The boy was asleep, but he was awakened once more by the voice calling him, "Samuel, Samuel." The young man looked from one side to the other. There was no one there. Then, raising his eyes to heaven, he asked the Lord to tell him what He had for him.

Chapter 3 of the first book of Samuel begins: “And the word of the Lord was rare in those days; there was no widespread revelation.” What caused God to be silent? Why were God’s Word and visions scarce? Why did the Lord not reveal Himself as He always had?

The problem was not with God. He is a loving Father who is willing to communicate and guide the steps of His beloved children, but in those days men and women were reluctant to hear God's voice. For this reason, the attitude of a child who, upon hearing the divine voice, answered without hesitation: "Speak, Lord, for your servant hears" stands out.

Since then, God has sought out human beings who are willing to hear His voice. However, we live in times in which many voices proliferate. The media and especially social media are crammed with messages. Everyone wants to be heard. Everyone speaks and shares their ideas, and human beings are confused and dazed. Unsure, they do not know which direction to take.

Today more than ever, God is looking for men and women who are sensitive to His voice. Toying with it, postponing the invitation, or rejecting it can be dangerous, because the day will come when human beings will run back and forth looking for God's Word and will not find it.

Take Action

Pray that God will bless every member of your family that they will always hear and be sensitive to His voice. Sing "Speak, for Your Servant Hears" (if possible, with your family).
