ELIJAH IS TAKEN TO HEAVEN

«Then it happened, as they continued on and talked, that suddenly a chariot of fire appeared with horses of fire, and separated the two of them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.» 2 Kings 2:11

Heart absorbed, almost speechless, nothing in his surrounding mattered to him except the chariot of fire drawn by golden horses that carried off his master. Elisha looked at that splendid, dazzling chariot, as if thousands of angels carried it. Nothing around him belonged to him anymore, he was so focused on what he was looking at. It was like he was absent, as if he were in the same heaven to which his master and counsellor were going.

The startling scene occurred while they were “walking and talking,” like masters and disciples do. The biblical text states that the chariot of fire “separated the two of them.” This separation was surely real from a physical point of view. Our eyes see only what is in front of us. But the reality for Elisha was different. The Spirit who had guided Elijah was now with the disciple. After all, he had asked his master for a double portion of the same spirit that worked wonders in his mentor’s ministry.

Elijah ascended into heaven. He was the second human being who did not know death, a symbol of those who will one day inherit heavenly glory without experiencing death. The last generation of people that will precede Christ’s second coming will also be a generation that, like Elijah, has learned to walk and live in the Spirit.

This journey in faith is not a simple theory, but a daily experience of communion with Jesus, through daily Bible study and prayer. Nothing in the world should prevent this connection with Jesus.

Take Action

Before you start your activities, make sure that Jesus is more than just a pretty name, or a theoretical concept. May He be your life, your breath, peace during the storms of the road. Follow His direction and prepare to be transported to heaven, without knowing death, on the occasion of His Second Coming.
