A quarrelsome brother

«And the Lord respected Abel and his offering, but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell.» Genesis 4:4-5

How sad! Each day, Adam and Eve saw a new consequence of their disobedience to God.

To teach them how serious sin is, God asked them to sacrifice a little lamb on an altar. Poor animal, right? But this lamb symbolized Jesus himself, who would one day be killed on the cross because of disobedience.

Adam and Eve had two sons: Cain and Abel. They grew up and were also supposed to sacrifice a lamb. Abel was obedient to God, but Cain was rebellious.

One day, each one built his own altar. Abel placed a lamb on the altar, as God had indicated. And God accepted his sacrifice. But Cain put fruit on the altar instead. God didn't like to see him doing things his way and rebuked him.

Cain became angry with God and his brother, and killed Abel. What a tragedy! Disobedience to God brings horrible results, doesn’t it?

Let’s practice!

Ask your mom or dad to pray with you for God to help you always be obedient to Him.
