«Then the city was broken through.» 2 Kings 25:4
After the reign of Josiah, other kings came. But they did not follow Josiah’s example. They were disobedient. Then Nebuchadnezzar, the Babylonian king, bordered the city. For more than a year, people could not go out to purchase supplies. There was a great famine.
The enemy army broke into the city and invaded it. They captured King Zedekiah, tied his hands, killed his sons in front of him, and put out his eyes!
That was cruel, wasn’t it? They also burned the city and the house of God, but the precious metals they found were taken back to Babylon. Only a few poor people were left around the city taking care of the vineyards. The young men of the royal house were taken away to serve the enemy kingdom.
Why did this happen? Do you remember the book of the law? It warned the king and the people that disobedience brings consequences. They were warned many times, but they chose to disobey. All these bad things were the result of their disobedience.
Let’s practice!
Have you ever suffered any consequences for disobeying your parents?
