«Then the anger of the Lord was aroused against Uzza, and He struck him.» 1 Chronicles 13:10
The ark of God was a sacred object. God had given detailed directions for its construction and transport.
When David became king and made Jerusalem the capital of the kingdom, he wanted to bring the ark to the capital. Everything was organized. And the ark was put on a new ox cart to be transported. There was a joyful procession that sang while some played various instruments.
Suddenly, the oxen stumbled and Uzzah, one of those driving the cart, touched the ark to hold it. He was wounded right away and fell down, dead.
Why did this happen?
According to God’s instructions, no one except the priests were allowed to touch it, or even look at it if it was uncovered. And its transport was not to be on an ox cart, but by special men, the Kohathites, who were to carry it on their shoulders by rods placed in rings on each side of the ark.
The way it was carried that day was a serious disregard of the directions given by God. That’s very sad, isn’t it?
Let’s practice!
Draw God’s ark.
