«Let me therefore fall into the hand of the Lord.» 1 Chronicles 21:13
After the rebellion of his son Absalom, King David returned to Jerusalem. But he made a mistake: he stopped trusting in God.
There was a custom among nations, and this happens in countries still today, which is to count the population. It is called a census. David asked Joab, his commander, to do the counting.
But God had already assured David that He was the One who gave victories to the people. And now David was concerned to know how many men of war there were in the kingdom, so that he could feel more secure when organizing his army.
Joab counted 1,570,000 men of war. But God didn’t like this act of David and told him that, for his distrust, he had to choose between three punishments. And the punishment came. David repented greatly and recognized his lack of faith.
Let’s practice!
Pray with your mom and dad, asking God to help you trust Him every day.
