The King Boy

«Why do you transgress the commandments of the Lord?» 2 Chronicles 24:20

Joash became king as a very young child: he was only seven years old. The priest Jehoiada was his counselor. For several years Joash did what pleased God. He made a campaign to collect money to rebuild the house of God. The people brought so many offerings that the reformation was carried out.

However, the priest Jehoiada grew old and died. Then some evil princes of Judah came to Joash and gave him evil advice. Joash followed the words of his friends and began to worship idols. He stopped going to the temple and set a very bad example to the people. God sent some prophets to warn the king about his bad actions, but he didn’t care.

Then God sent Zechariah, the son of the priest Jehoiada, to advise him. But do you know what the king did? He ordered to throw stones at him and kill him.

Joash ended up being murdered by his own subjects. What a shame! He started out doing the right thing, but in the end, he did everything wrong.

Let’s practice!
