«In the first year of his reign, in the first month, he opened the doors of the house of the Lord and repaired them.» 2 Chronicles 29:3
Hezekiah was the new king of the kingdom of Judah. His father, King Ahaz, had done many wrong things. The people no longer went to worship in the house of God because its doors were closed, and it needed repair.
Then he decided that he would be different from his father. He would obey God and set a good example to the people.
As soon as he became king, the first thing he did was to reopen the doors of the temple. He also held a meeting with the priests and Levites, the men responsible for the temple services, and asked them to remove all the idols that had been placed there.
He reminded them of the covenant that God had made with His people: when they obeyed, God kept His promise, but when they disobeyed, God stopped blessing them.
Finally! Once again, the people were being obedient to God!
Let’s practice!
Do you like to go to church? What else do you like to do in the house of God?
