«The God of heaven Himself will prosper us. » Nehemiah 2:20
Nehemiah was also taken prisoner by the Babylonians when Jerusalem was invaded. He was a cupbearer to the Persian king, an important job. The king liked him and became his friend.
One day, Nehemiah learned that the people in Jerusalem were suffering. They had rebuilt the temple and parts of the city, but there were still no walls and enemies were disturbing them. Nehemiah was discouraged. For four months, he prayed and fasted, pleading with God to help Israel.
Although he tried to be cheerful before the king, he noticed that Nehemiah was unhappy. Weeping, Nehemiah told him what was happening to his people. The king was kind, not only letting Nehemiah go to his land, but helping him with letters, materials, and soldiers to protect him.
Some evil men tried to hinder the work of Nehemiah and his group, but they were brave! They prayed to God and kept watch against these enemies until they finished the construction.
Let’s practice!
Is your heart sad like the heart of Nehemiah? Pray to God too! And if you are happy, thank God!
