Thirst For God

«My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.» Psalm 42:2

Do you like to drink water? It’s a very important habit! Did you know that most of your body is made of water? When you cough, sweat, breathe, pee, you lose water. Then you need to replace it. Your brain needs water to function well, and so does your whole body. A person who doesn’t drink water gets sick more easily.

Psalm 42 might have been written by one of the musicians responsible for the praise in the temple. This psalm talks about the desire he had to be in God’s presence and his fear that God would forget him.

His desire for God was so great that he compared himself to a deer (have you ever seen that animal?) desperate to find a stream to drink fresh water.

The writer of the psalm cried because he was so anxious to be with God. He felt happy when he was in God’s presence!

Let’s practice!

Do you know why he felt this way? Because there is no better place to be than walking with God, being His friend, talking to Him every day. Without Him you won’t make good choices, you will be selfish and choose things that will make you sad and unhappy. Pray to God asking to be thirsty for God too.
