«He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge.» Psalm 91:4 (ESV)
Have you ever seen a mother hen looking after her chicks, or a mother duck looking after her ducklings? They are so cute. Some are very yellow, while others are black or white.
The mother duck flaps her wings, and sometimes she flaps her wings very angrily when she sees someone trying to get close to her little babies. When the weather is bad or dangerous, she puts them all under her wings and they stay there protected.
When I was a child, I heard a story about a mother hen who was on a farm with her little chicks. One day, the farmhouse caught on fire, and everything burned down. The next day, the farmer went to see if there was anything left and noticed a small pile. When he moved it with a stick, several chicks came out from underneath it. The mother hen had protected her chicks under her wings. She was burned to death, but the chicks were saved.
Psalm 91 says that under God’s wings we are well protected! What a loving God, isn’t He?
Let’s practice!
Draw the chicks under the wings of the mother hen.
