«If you turn away your foot from the Sabbath, from doing your pleasure on my holy day, [...] then you shall delight yourself in the Lord.» Isaiah 58:13-14
When God created the world, He gave a special day for Adam and Eve to remember that He was the God who had made them, and that He loved them dearly. After sin, the Sabbath was still a special day. But the people forgot to make the Sabbath a holy and different day. They ended up becoming slaves in Egypt. There, they had to work every day, or they were beaten a lot.
When Moses brought them out of Egypt, God gave His laws and reminded the people about the Sabbath: “Remember the Sabbath day!” For a while the people obeyed. But over time, they began to disregard that special day again.
God always sent His messenger to remind the people of the laws He had given. Then it was Isaiah’s turn to convey God’s messages to the people. He said: “If you do God’s will and not your own on the Sabbath, if you make the Sabbath a happy day, speaking special words and doing special things, you will be happy because I will bless you!”
Let’s practice!
Arrange with your mom to have special clothes to wear on Sabbath and special toys to play with only on Sabbath.
