«Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, that I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness.» Jeremiah 23:5-8
Do you like olives or olive oil? Olives are the fruit of an olive tree. In Israel, there are many olive trees. Some are hundreds and hundreds of years old.
Once, visiting the Mount of Olives, where Jesus often went and where He liked to pray, I saw an olive tree with a very old and rotten trunk. But from the middle of it there was a beautiful, brand-new branch coming out.
In the history of the people of Israel, God had said that a branch—the Messiah, Jesus, the Savior of the world— would come out from David’s family. But many in this family turned away from God. So now, how would a branch come from this family?
But God had promised that Jesus would come, the same way that a beautiful branch would come out from a rotten tree trunk. Jesus would be like the olive tree branch. God had promised this, and He would fulfill it!
Let’s practice!
Draw a beautiful olive tree full of olives. Don’t forget to make the branch, too. Jesus is that olive branch!
