«And they let Jeremiah down with ropes. And in the dungeon there was no water, but mire. So Jeremiah sank in the mire.» Jeremiah 38:6
Jeremiah was born into a family that loved God. God called him to be a prophet. A prophet is a person who receives messages from God about things that will happen in the future.
Jeremiah lived in a very difficult time, when the Jewish nation, chosen by God, was turning away from God. Enemy nations were threatening to invade Jerusalem. And God was always giving Jeremiah messages for the king and the people.
Sometimes the messages were about bad things that would happen. And this made the king angry. Jeremiah was arrested because of this. Another time they put the prophet in a pit full of mud. Poor Jeremiah! He spent some time there, bogged down, until a good man rescued him with ropes and rags. Jeremiah preferred to be faithful to God than to tell lies to the people and the king.
Let’s practice!
Draw the muddy pit where Jeremiah was put.
