«Then Jonah prayed to the Lord his God from the belly of the fish.» Jonah 2:1 (ESV)
Jonah was a prophet of God. You already know that a prophet receives messages from God to give to the people, don’t you? God gave a message for Jonah to take to the city of Nineveh. This city was very wicked and violent. God would destroy Nineveh if the people did not repent.
Jonah went to the port of Japhath and got on the ship, but not to go to Nineveh. He tried to flee out of fear.
But God sent a storm during the trip. The desperate sailors threw all their luggage overboard. And what about Jonah? He had fallen asleep in the lowest part of the ship. He woke up and told them that he was running away from God. So, he was thrown overboard, and the storm passed.
But God didn’t let Jonah drown in the sea. He sent a big fish to swallow him. After three days, the fish threw up Jonah on the beach. And he went to Nineveh to preach.
Let’s practice!
Draw Jonah in the belly of the fish. Ask Jesus to help you never run away like Jonah.
