Salt And Light

«You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? [...]. You are the light of the world […]. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.» Matthew 5:13-16

Jesus once said that we should be the salt of the earth and the light of the world. Have you ever eaten food without salt? It seems that, if there is no seasoning, the food doesn’t taste like anything, right? Salt, in the right measure, is important to bring out the flavor and make the food taste better. This is the way we should also be for the world: the right seasoning.

Have you ever had to stay in a dark room because the electricity went out? When the power goes out, we get very lost. Without being able to see around us, we are afraid to trip or run into a piece of furniture.

Light is essential for our survival. This is why Jesus compared us to light. We must be light in a world that lives in the darkness of sin and show God’s love through our works. Many people will only learn about the love of Jesus through your life. What a privilege to be able to take Jesus to people who live in a dark world!

Let’s practice!

Close your eyes for a while and think about how people who don’t know the love of Jesus live, as if they were in endless darkness. Send a message to someone, telling them that God cares for them.
