«Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?» Matthew 19:16
While Jesus was preaching, there was a very rich young man who observed Jesus from afar. He had many possessions and a lot of money, but his heart was empty. He watched Jesus paying attention to the little children, taking them in His arms, and he felt a great desire to talk to Jesus.
He approached Jesus and asked what he should do to go to heaven. Jesus said that he should be obedient and keep all the commandments. The young man became excited and said: “Oh, Jesus, then I’m doing everything right, because I honor my parents, I don’t kill, and I keep the other commandments.”
Jesus then said: “Well, young man, you want to be perfect, don’t you? Then sell everything you have and give it to the poor.”
The young man bowed his head, thought for a while, and walked away.
Why did he do this? Because he was selfish and had made money his idol. God was not the most import-ant thing in his life. Jesus knew his heart and was sad because he had made a bad choice.
Let’s practice!
What is most important to you? Your toys, your house, your mom and dad, or Jesus?
