Two Commandments

«You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second, like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.» Matthew 22:37-39

God had already taught His commandments to Adam and Eve in Eden, but He gave them to Moses again, on Mount Sinai, because the people had forgotten them.

Many years later, when Jesus came to earth, some teachers of the law came to ask Him which commandments were the most important.

Jesus then wanted to teach that all the commandments are equally important, and they are divided into two: love for God and love for your neighbor. We love God when we have no gods other than Him and do not worship images; when we do not take God’s name in vain, and when we keep the Sabbath. We love our neighbor when we honor our parents, don’t kill, don’t commit adultery, don’t make things up about others and when we don’t wish and envy what other people have.

Let’s practice!

Ask for help to remember all the ten commandments.
