Satan Tempts Jesus

«The Spirit of the Lord is upon me.» Luke 4:18

After His birth, Jesus returned with His parents to Nazareth. But shortly after they had to flee to Egypt. The evil King Herod wanted to kill Him. Satan was behind this. He would do anything to defeat Jesus! But he was not able to.

When Jesus became a man, before He began to fulfill His mission, He went to the desert to pray. There He spent forty days praying. He didn’t have anything to eat or drink; He was starving and tired.

Then Satan planned to tempt Jesus three times. First, he told Jesus that, if He was the Son of God, He should perform a miracle and turn stones into loaves of bread to eat. Then the devil took Him to a high mountain, showed Him beautiful buildings and said that He would give Him power and glory if He would worship Him. Then he took Him to Jerusalem, to the pinnacle of the temple, and told Him to throw Himself down from there and people would find it amazing and believe in Him.

Jesus recognized that Satan wanted to destroy Him before He began His work and told Satan to get out of there because he was evil and had been defeated. So the devil fled.

Then Jesus went to a synagogue, opened the scroll and began to read it. It was the beginning of His work to announce the beautiful story of salvation to all men!

Let’s practice!

Thank Jesus for coming to the world, and for defeating Satan! Because of this, we can also overcome Satan.
