«Therefore be merciful, as your Father also is merciful.» Luke 6:36
Jesus did not miss any opportunity to teach someone.
One of His lessons was about the Sabbath. He had created the Sabbath as a happy day to worship God. But some leaders of Israel had created laws making the Sabbath an unhappy day.
Jesus and His disciples were criticized for picking ears of corn on a Sabbath. They were hungry. They had done nothing wrong. They were not working for money. They were just satisfying their hunger.
Jesus was also criticized for healing on the Sabbath. And Jesus taught them that the Sabbath was a day to do good to others.
Jesus also taught the people to be happy, to put God first, to love their enemies, not to repay evil with evil but with good, to be merciful to all.
Jesus said that we should treat everyone well because God will treat us the same way we treat others.
Let’s practice!
Repeat one of the lessons of Jesus: “Therefore be merciful, as your Father also is merciful” (Luke 6:36).
