«Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”» Acts 2:38
Have you ever done something that made mom and dad sad?
Peter was a great preacher and friend of God. One day he was speaking to many people. They liked to listen to him. He talked about repentance.
Do you know what that is? Just like sometimes we make mom and dad sad, we also make God sad when we disobey Him. This is called "sin." So God lets us be sad for that sin. This is called "repentance." It is not just the fear of receiving a punishment, but it is a sadness that keeps you from repeating these actions that make God sad.
God hates sin because sin is very, very bad for us and makes us feel sad. God wants us to be happy.
The people Peter spoke to were afraid of God. But you do not have to be afraid of God. He can be your best friend. Talk to Him every day. Take Him with you wherever you go. Repentance means washing your little heart just as you wash your body when you take a shower. After it is clean, it will be just like Jesus’ heart!
Let's practice!
Draw a pretty picture of what you want your heart to look like.
