«And they cast him out of the city and stoned him.» Acts 7:58
Jesus had another disciple named Stephen. He was kind and courageous in telling others the story of Jesus.
The temple leaders didn’t like what he was doing and called him to court.
Stephen told them the entire story of the people of Israel, starting with the call to Abraham to form a great nation that should tell the world about salvation. He told them about the people in the desert, the conquering of Canaan, and about the miracles God had performed. Stephen also talked about how this nation that had been chosen to tell the world about God, had become the enemy of Jesus.
Those men became furious! Stephen was saying that they hated God, and that they were murderers and betrayers for killing Jesus! So they covered their ears, and then took him outside the city and threw stones at him until he died.
Let’s practice!
Pray to God, saying: “Dear God, I want the Holy Spirit in my life so I can have the courage to speak about Jesus just like Stephen! In Jesus’s name, amen!”
